Art has nourished my life since I was a little girl.  Drawing and painting became the safe place for my soul to speak and to flourish . After Graduating from Westmont College with a Liberal Arts Degree along with a teaching degree, I went on to work in design and the creative side of advertising.  Being a stay-at-home mom for 11 years was an ideal place to continue to surround myself with art and teach not only my children, but their friends, as well.  I later took the art teacher position at Mariners Christian School for seven years, which I fondly call my “Glory Days”.  I have been dreaming of opening an art studio for 10 years in order to pair my love for art  along with my love of teaching. Thus, a dream come true!  The joyous birth of Art + Soul Collective....a place to learn art and nourish and refresh the soul!  (Esther 4:14)

Even as a young child I was spellbound by art, particularly the beauty and freedom of heavy paints and mixed-media.  The first art studio I made was in my tiny bedroom closet in the house where I grew up in Washington D.C.  After finishing college, I completed an MFA in Poetry and taught high school English. My students and I played with weaving language and visual arts together, and I began holding mixed-media and book binding workshops in my house.  Over the last decade I've had the opportunity to teach art to kids and adults in parks, soup kitchens, backyards and studios.  I'm committed to teaching with encouragement rather than praise and communicating that art, rather than something "good enough to hang on the wall," is a powerful act of exploration, self-expression, and play.
